Indiana has long been central to U. S. Steel’s operations, but the company sought a current, statewide assessment that clearly quantified its economic contribution beyond direct employment. U. S. Steel partnered with Parker Strategy Group to develop a comprehensive Indiana economic impact study.

How we helped
Parker Strategy Group measured the full economic footprint of U. S. Steel’s Indiana operations, including direct spending, supply-chain impacts, household spending effects, employment, and tax revenues.
The analysis showed that U. S. Steel’s Indiana operations generated:
- $1.8 billion in total economic impact
- 8,402 jobs supported statewide, including 4,341 direct employees
- $1.2 billion in value added to Indiana’s economy
- $245.6 million in total tax revenues, including $67.4 million for state and local governments
- Engagement with 401 Indiana-based suppliers

The study equipped U. S. Steel with a defensible economic narrative linking jobs, supplier activity, and public revenues—supporting engagement with policymakers, partners, and communities across Indiana.
